My name is Nicole Slaughter-Graham, and there are three things I always have in my purse: a notebook, a pen, and a book to read. My mother tells me I used to choose a book and crawl into my bed, flip through the pages, and recite the lines from memory before I was actually able to read.
I’d love to inspire and unite written-word-nerds everywhere (and maybe even convince the general population to join us), but I’ll stay realistic. My goal is to provide fun, informative, and helpful information that you’ll hopefully share with others.
The beauty of reading is that it allows us to take off the “hat” known as life and dive into something new. We can be anything we want when we read. And when we write, we can create anything we want. Our lives are multi-faceted as are the books we indulge in.
I try to keep an open mind about what I read, but my favorite genres are:
- Literary fiction (including its sub-genres like women’s lit, world lit, etc.)
- Children’s lit (not only do I love it, but I have a 7 year old so I’ve got the perfect excuse to read it often.)
And now for the basics. I’m a 29-year-old, Eckerd College graduate living on the sunny west coast of Florida. My husband and I have an 9-year-old son and another baby boy due in October of this year. I’m currently planning to enroll in a Master’s in Journalism program. I’m a freelance journalist, writer and editor at the moment.
I’ve had the good fortune of being published a little. My work has been featured on USA Today’s College page, US News & World Report, VFW Magazine duPont REIGSTRY’s Autofluence, and a few others. You can check out my work on my website.
I encourage you to subscribe and help me build a community of well-rounded, awesome written-word-nerds.
